CEC Tariff quote doesn't match supplier

Using MSE Cheap Energy Club to switch from one existing Scottish Power tariff to another one appeared to be going very smooth.

I submitted my request and a few days later receive a letter from SP saying switch complete but when I checked the tariff details they were completely different and it isn't the 5% VAT different!

The tariff name is correct it's the prices that are not. Instead of saving £104/year this will cost £230/year more!!!

SP say I have to contact MSE CEC about this. Who would this be though? :money:

When I check real SP website and this new tariff the unit rates are what SP say they should be so I don't where the comparison sites are getting there information from. Both uSwitch and MoneySuperMarket show me the lower prices.

Ofgem accredited comparison sites generally get their tariff data direct from the supplier involved.
In the case of the MSE CEC, the tariff data comes from ofgem accredited MSM, the parent company (so no surprise the CEC and MSM show the same tariff data)

If you want someone to look into this further, please provide the following details:
1. The exact name of the SP tariff you are referring to
2. The supply region, or first part of your postcode
3. The tariff data you say the CEC indicates (unit rates, daily standing charge, etc)
4. The tariff data you have now been informed of directly by the supplier.

It is common for suppliers to offer better tariffs via comparison sites to gain new customers rather than via their own website for existing customers.

There is nothing stopping you getting the cheaper tariffs and higher cashback by using better switching sites, many are available other than CEC that do not suffer these problems.

Benight still doesn't accept this, back on 24th April he stated that "The energy prices are exactly the same no matter where you buy" which is clearly wrong as you have found.

I have been, unsuccessfully, looking for contact information at the MSE CEC.
