The original quote did have VAT in, and when we asked for a discount/better price, the owner said they are currently going through the VAT registration process but that if we got our deposit in before they completed the registration, then we could save the VAT. It looks like a relatively young business, so I think they're under or just breaking the 85k threshold. I do think they're a legit company!

It may be that they are nearing the thresh hold so will need to register before the OP pays for the hire.


If they pay now before they have to register they could then save the VAT because at this point they are not yet registered, Yet being the key word.


100% cancellation fee is legal if they can't mitigate the loss. you are entering a contract under those terms so be careful what you agree to.
