Washing machine tripping electric on final spin

More of an economics question, but it would be interesting to know the cause as well. (appreciate it may be a needle in a haystack/ how long is a piece of string type query)
My washing machine, about 12 years old (Servis M6006) has been tripping the fusebox during its final spin. It only happens occasionally, I had forgotten about the last time until it happened again today.
Due to its age (is 12 years for a machine usually used only once a week considered old?) I'm wondering if I should forego calling out an engineer, and just put the money saved toward a new machine.
Any suggestions on a likely cause, and more importantly, would you consider it worthwhile fixing? I've no problems with it other than this cutting out, but don't know anything about expected lifespans. IIRC, it's a cheap model anyway. It was just the 1600 spin, along with the 'A' rating that made me choose it originally.

As washing machines tend to vibrate most during the spin cycle, it could be a damaged wire that is touching the chassis when the spin is going.
Personally, for a 12 year old machine, I wouldn't be spending too much time or money investigating the cause as you may get it fixed only for another fault to occur in the not too distant future.0 -
Start by checking the mains cable between the machine and plug, it may be loose or damaged. Easy to check but often hidden behind the machine.0
