I am therefore unable to consider this issue further as, in our view; these concerns should have been raised no later than 1985. This is because your mortgage started in 1982 and was closed in 2000, you are now making a complaint about this matter 19 years after your mortgage closed and 37 years after you took the initial mortgage" (unquote) So as I am not familiar with this jargon and Money Saving Experts have prompted me to complain about 'historic' accounts. Seems I failed at the first hurdle ...
There are 2 relevant time bar rules - 6 years from taking out a product and 3 years after you knew (or could reasonably have known) you had reason to complain. I am not convinced (albeit without any legal authority to say so) that you can use the 3 year rule on the basis you opened the account in 1982 and thus 3 years applies from then but closing the mortgage in 2000 would certainly trigger it assuming the other package ended as well. FOS will ask the firm to double check it but a flat refusal by them on this basis is unlikely to be entertained even if the FOS ask.Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
