Problem with British Gas Smart Linked Thermostat

I had one of these systems installed in 2012, and it was subsequently migrated to the Hive network. I am having a problem with the portable thermostat. The battery indicator is flashing permanently, even after replacing the batteries with a new (and tested) set. The batteries are also definitely inserted the right way round! The thermostat will no longer control the heating system - I can adjust the temperature up or down to extremes but it never transmits to the receiver. So for example if I set the temperature to 30 degrees I would expect a flame icon to appear on the thermostat after a minute or so, but it never does. The thermostat (and hub) both appear to be online on the Hive website.
Any ideas??

I don't see a reset button/hole anywhere on the thermostat, and no reset procedure is mentioned in the User Instructions for it.

"Insert the batteries into the thermostat, press and hold down the menu 8 and back buttons on the thermostat and follow the factory reset instructions on screen. After about 10 seconds, "Welcome' and 'Searching..' will be displayed on screen. If the thermostat shows 'REJOIN' then try steps 1 and 5 again."

I don't have one, but after a quick google search, that came up... If that makes any sense to you, then try it.

Thanks for looking. Unfortunately the thermostat doesn't have a menu, 8 or back button!

They didn't seem to know much about my thermostat, and could not explain the problem. They seemed less concerned as the web-based functionality still seemed to work.

I think this is the BG re branded version of the Drayton Digistat RF2 or RF3.
There is no smart function, ie does not link to internet like the Hive.
Before Hive I had the Drayton RF2 and it suffered similar symptoms to yours except the battery light did not flash.
Turned out the receiver was faulty. I think I changed the receiver although a remedy was to change a capacitor in the receiver.

Edit just seen your post 10, so you do have internet functionality? Could not see that in the instructions linked to on here
