Aussie driving in the UK

Hi all,
Apologies if this has been queried in the past or if this is in the wrong part of the forum.
I have a friend coming over from Australia for a holiday and he wants to go on a driving tour of the UK. I have a car that is currently SORN, and he wants to use it for the time he is over (roughly about 6 weeks). I would be looking to sell the car pretty much straight after he’s gone back home.
In people’s experience, what is the cheapest way for him to do his tour? Would it be to get insured on my car? For me to get insured and him to be a named driver? Or just to rent a car for the 6 weeks that he’s over here.
Many thanks in advance for any help/guidance you can give me.
Thanks

If insuring in your name, you would need to make it clear that your friend is to be the main driver.0

Check with your insurance company first, mine wouldnt insure a expat from USA. Had to take out another short term policy.0

I would also look into the licence a little more as an old workmate passed his test in NZ, his home country, and didn't know he couldn't drive manual over here, his instructions company didn't question his licence until someone drive into him writing his car off.
Your mate may be better off hiring a car instead.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.0 -

Hope that helps!
I had a mate, sadly passed away these 3 years next Christmas, who came over every year for a month to stay with us. He stayed between us and his sister in another county and only drove the UK once. As he had been in Oz since he was 22, most of his driving was in Oz and he could not stand the amount of traffic in the UK. We had been mates from babies and both been bikers when young, so all his car driving was in Oz and he lived in a small town on the Gold Coast. Either his sister or we would take him anywhere he wished and he also took buses all over the UK. He always said that driving 250 Km in Oz was preferable to 20 miles in UK traffic.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

Its cheaper to rent than try and insure him; insurance companies won't cover non-residents or if they do its at a cost higher than renting a car.0

His views would have been very different if he'd lived in Sydney.
That's the point: he lived near a small town on the Gold Coast and his nearest city was Brisbane, where he only went for air travel and a family member usually took him. He was born within days of me and brought up as I was, in a village surrounded by fields, farms and forest. he remained a country boy in Oz, hated urban areas as do I.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.
