Wonder if anyone can explain for the financially illiterate please: I thought that when using these cards abroad, there were no fees incurred. However there are fees against most/all foreign transactions on my statement. Clearly it’s not as straightforward as I’d assumed..

Pretty sure it’s always carried foreign transaction fees

Which specific cards? Lloyds Choice or Lloyds Avios?

The original Lloyds Avios Amex and Mastercard cards are indeed fee-free for overseas purchases, not sure about the Choice.

These cards are being discontinued in phases for groups of customers, if you've received the letter about this and a replacement MasterCard then the new card isn't fee-free.

^ Ah thanks for the info — Avios. The cards were issued about a year ago on a dormant account, so it looks like they downgraded me at the same time.

Thanks for the useful link; didn’t know about the upcoming changes. Suppose I should start reading those Ts & Cs in future

Time to change to a "user friendly" credit card for use abroad.

    The Barclaycard is best IMO.

I still have and use both cards and have recently (end of April/Early May) done few transaction in Euro, which still did not carry any fee and, the Mastercard's transactions, had the usual good exchange rate. I was in USA in February and used the cards exclusively, again with no charges...
As per my other messages on this forum, although I have received the letter informing me of the upcoming changes, there is no actual exact date, so until they formally send me an update with a firm date, i will continue using the cards as per existing terms.

    Quick Update,

After my May’s statement was produced I noticed in an early June transaction that a Forex fee had been charged. After looking more closely, I noticed that the card number in the app had changed. I called customer service and was told that The new card had been sent in March, but actually a new issue of the duo cards were sent and received in March. Anyway, the Forex fee were reversed and the new card re-ordered by Customer Service. I was told that until I received the new card, any Forex fee could be reversed. Few days later I received the letter starting that the change of the Avios duo cards into a new Mastercard only version was coming into effect with the issue of a new card.
So it is now officially ended😢
