Carpet quote

I know this is a tricky question to answer (I think) has a quote today to fit carpet to our landing and stairs. One bed house so it's not massive.

Carpet is £30 per square meter (metre?) Labour is £46 but the whole quote is £615 including underlay.

The quote is not broken down any further than 30 quid delivery.

Does this seem okay?

I've never bought carpet before, and after years of threadbare rented carpet I want something nice. I'm not planning on moving ever so it's not a 2/3 year home.

As we don't know how much carpet you've purchased, it's hard to say. Big chains like CarpetSh1te often charge silly money for underlay. Local independents tend to be more reasonable.

Labour sounds about right as stairs take longer than rooms, but it sounds quite a lot in total for landing and stairs. £30 quid for delivery is taking the p*ss if it's a few miles in a van from the carpet shop.

Ask for a breakdown. And get quotes from other places.

A few years back we got a quote from one of the big chains of around £1k to carpet a large lounge. Ended up buying the exact same carpet and underlay online from Burts and getting it fitted by a local fitter. Carpet and Underlay cost £380 and fitting was about £90.

I've just fitted our stairs and hall carpet myself. Not something I'd do again but we couldn't find a fitter available in the next few weeks and I'm pretty handy with DIY. Associated Weavers Invictus Perseus 4.1m x 4m remnant for £177 (Burts again but their EBAY store), Cloud 9 Cirrus 9mm underlay 15m sq for £54. The quotes I had for fitting were around the £50-70 mark. A bit more work involved this way but less than half of what you've been quoted. As kinger101 says, it's difficult to compare as we don't know how much you need but hope this helps.

Thanks guys, I got a call to say the quote was incorrect and it should be £540 which I feel slightly happier paying. I'm gonna just go for it I think, we've had 2 months of bare floorboards so just want it covered now!
