Hi, how do you add another name to your gas utility bill? Mate of mine is staying in and just arrived in the UK and will need some proof of address to open a bank. How do I add him to my bill ?

I don't think you can add another name to a utility account.
I once tried to put my wife's name on my account as proof of address & it was a big no.
    I could be wrong though.

Depends on who your utility company is - we have a joint names on our water bill and council tax bills but not on the leccy or phone/broadband.

My wife pays the TV licence and leccy bill, I pay the phone/broadband.

That's how we get around the requirement to have a utility bill as proof of ID.

We laso have a joint bank account each so that if one or other of us becomes incapacitated (or snuffs it) either can access them rather than having to fight with the banks/building societies

The last time I did it was when I was in a shared house as a student. We got 4 names on there. Which worked for the providers as we could be held jointly and severally liable for any debts.
