Smart meter gas reading
Options
Hi,
I have just had a smart meter fitted in my home with new meters, the electric one seems quite accurate but the gas one is saying that yesterday I used £17 worth of gas 17.74 kwh used and the day before £35.06 35kwh used ?! The heating comes on for an hour per day and say a bath each day. New Combi boiler!
Surely this is not correct? I'm a bit worried now to even use gas being bank holiday I can't contact anyone.
My charges for gas are listed as 3.666p per unit and 8p daily charge.
Anyone know more about these meters?

You will be charged according to the tariff agreed, for the consumption as recorded by the meter. Forget what the dumb smart meter may otherwise indicate0 -
You charges will not be listed per unit but by kWh.
Ignore the handheld unit, go to the meter, make sure the units agree on the handheld (units, not kWh or £).
Then work out the unit to kWh and kWh to £ yourself.
If the unit is still displaying £ wrong then get them to fix the meter config (they can probably do it remotely without a visit). However it should not cause you to be billed incorrectly.0 -
The gas meter is displaying something like £3.34 balance that sounds better. But will ring them tomorrow anyway0

What is the reading from the meter's display in m3 ?
The meter will have been installed with a reading of 00000.000 m3
Multiply the difference by 11.2 to give the approx the kwh. Multiply by 3.666p. Allow for standing charges and apply VAT at 5% to the total.
What go you get.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
Now put that In House Display in the back of the drawer where it belongs.
Just read the main meter, keep your own records, read the bills and understand them - don't come back to the forum in 12 months time and say" I've just had a big bill - I thought my tariff and DD was fixed."Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0
