Best smart shower

Hi all,

We are thinking of putting a smart shower in our new bathroom. We've got it down to Smartap and Mira mode, I'm leaning more towards the Smartap but I can't seem you find much info on it other than it's sold through victoria plum.

I think the Mira mode is better but I am not sure how we fill up the bath with it, I think we'd need another dial to do that.

I wondered if anyone had any experience with smart showers in general.

Is there really a need for a smart app for taking a shower?

Genuinely interested in knowing how this sort of thing improves the experience ;)

In the interest of money saving, I'd instead get a decent thermostatic mixer such as a Bristan.

If you must go with a "smart" shower, I'd go with a Mira as they've been around a long time at least.

Remember, the more complicated something is, the more there is to go wrong. I can promise you life won't be any better just because your shower has a twitter account.

Having a remote on off switch not under the shower is handy

Aqualisa do some nice stuff I liked the ceiling entry no hidden pipes options.

I’ve no experience of smart showers, but every shower that I have had problems with has been a Mira. From the old mechanical hot/cold swivel-type at work 40 years ago to a succession of electric showers and thermostatic ones fed by the DHW. They always seem to have problems. Never had that with other makes, be it cheap DIY store own-brand or Triton electric. It may be that I am just unlucky, but I’m afraid Mira is on my list of “avoid” brands!

I have the Mira Mode. We got it so that we could turn on the shower from outside the cubicle and allow it to warm up, rather than leaning in under the head to turn on and get blasted by cold water. It does have the app, but I only used that originally to configure the max temperature and time off settings. You can also configure which handset turns on when using the secondary switch. Otherwise the smart features are pointless and I haven't ever turned on the shower from outside the bathroom.

Very happy with it, and great to not have to do the daily dodge of freezing cold water! It also flashes the indicator ring whilst the water is warming up, and only goes to solid on when the water is the set temperature.
  • I'm at exactly the same point and am looking at the Mira Mode and the Smartap. Which one did you go for and would you recommend it.

Interestingly Which faulted the Mira on reliability - its digital showers performed much worse than its standard range but unfortunately the Smartap wasn't covered.

I have the Mira Mode - we wanted an on switch that was located outside the shower cubicle, so it could be turned on and left to warm up before stepping in (the lights pulsate until the water is up to temp). No more icy blasts reaching in! Very happy with it.

Don't even have the app installed 18 months later - that's just a fad, and only useful to set your maximum temperature, auto-off time, and confirming what is plumbed to each button. Yes you can turn on from the bed, but why would you - waste of water and gas!

The Smartap also allows you to have a seperate controller as well so you don't have to use the app or Alexa to get the shower up and running and like the Mira it also uses LEDs to give you colour prompts.

The one thing I don't like about either of them is that I understand that the control knobs are plastic - it woud be so much better if they were chrome plated metal - especially at the price charged!

Overall I prefer the look of the Smartap so I think I will go for this. On paper it also has a lot more functionality but the reality I'll probably only use 10% of what it can do :-)
