son dropped phone down the toilet. unfortunately, it was switched back on before it had dried and now appears to have shorted/damaged a piece of hardware (see image). phone vibrates when you switch on but that's about all it does, totally black screen.
can anyone advise on whether the damage can be repaired? phone is worth about £70 working.

@£70 i doubt its worth a repair.
Did the screen come on when it was switched too soon? Might be worth taking it apart as much as you can and putting in a warm dry place for several days or a dehumidifier in a small room/cupboard for 24hrs0 -
Yes, screen came on initially but then broke up turned white before it went totally black and havent been able to get it to work since. Well beyond economic repair, i'd have thought.0

Might be worth giving that area a clean with alcohol and a cotton bud if there's no sign of failed components in that area. Often just the dried up remnants of the fluid can create enough of an electrical connection to cause an issue. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Worst case is that the mainboard needs a replacement.0

update for anyone else with similar problem.
have cleaned up the area as best i can with toothbrush and isopropanol but it appears that there is a break in the led component and some of the contacts looked burnt. screen is still blank.
have looked at working boards on ebay but they are £40+ and a replacement although easy to fit would not guarantee the phone would be back to 100% working order.

You could try replacing the two components, but you would need to know what to replace them with, as well good soldering skills.0
