Change of address with banks?

Hi, first of all I'd like to ask - where do banks check your address at for verification (except the electoral roll)? I wrote in my new address today while applying for a basic account online and got the no and got asked to submit proof of address and proof of ID, they said it's ok for me to upload documents online. I updated my new address at my old bank online, does that not get updated on credit files or whatever they check? Also another question, how do they verify if the documents we send them are legit? You could easily edit a bank statement online if it's in .pdf format?

Unless you’re asking with for a reason just do as they ask.
Your bank will update address details etc to the CRA’s when it sends its updates through to them0 -
It takes time for a new address to be reported to the CRAs. It is likely you would continue to have problems until you are registered on the electoral roll at your new address (and perhaps a month or two thereafter).
PDFs generated by a bank may be digitally signed, which would prevent them being altered. Scanned documents don't have this benefit. Most banks require such documents to be certified for this reason.0 -
I have just moved and all my current account banks have changed my address simply on the basis of a phone call/online transaction/online chat.
This was a few days after informing the council so I don't know if the electoral roll would have been updated that quickly.
Similarly with all the organisations with which I have savings. The only complication was with the Leeds Building Society which wanted a signed letter to confirm what I have already told them online having passed online security.
I have yet to see what happens when I write to the organisations with which I have no online access.0 -
I moved in March and when we were trying to set up accounts we had a nightmare as no one could confirm our identity. I contacted our local electoral office and asked when it would all be updated and they said about 6 weeks. It's been 2 months now and we're only just able to set a few things up (eg joint account, LISA...) It's a pain, but just a case of waiting a few months!0
