Idea of cost of repair?

Anybody have any idea of what it would cost to replace a broken laptop hinge on Lenovo G570 please? Somebody I know had a look at it but the repair is a bit too much for him to undertake - there are bits of plastic broken off inside I believe.
The laptop itself works perfectly though except I can't open and close the lid!
I'd just like a rough idea of what I might be charged by a repair shop.

I wouldn't bother repairing it, it would be too expensive and too risky.
90% of the time what breaks is not the hinge, but the plastic components (i.e. screen lid), so if you start replacing the hinges, you will see that other things will also need replacing.
In addition, once you start to open a laptop, especially old, plastic made ones, all the cracks in the plastic will get worse. So if you think you only have 1 thing broken, you end up having 4 or 5. And that makes the repair uneconomical.
My advice is to save for a new laptop or to buy a used, external screen and connect it to the laptop.0 -

Thank you - I think I knew that really. I've actually been persuaded by family to buy a MacBook Pro (used one) as they are real Apple fans and I know I can get good tech help easily, but I absolutely hate it and want to go back to Windows. Oh well, I'll just have to knuckle down and resign myself:(0 -
Agree. Would be too costly to mend. Some decent offers around[STRIKE]Dec-14 £143,429[/STRIKE] June-15 £127,500 - 4.54% 5 Yr Fixed0

I know that there are videos on YouTube, and that you can buy hinges, but I can't do it myself. I have neither the skill nor the confidence, and that's why I was considering a repair by an expert. As pointed out by arciere there is likely to be rather more damage than appears - especially as plastic pieces have broken off inside. So it seems I'll have to learn to love the Mac - which is not easy.0

If you want to PM me a few pictures of the laptop (of the damaged parts) I can take a look and give you my opinion. I've repaired quite a few of them (previous job), pictures should give me a rough idea.0
