Work Pay Day (Middle of Month!)

Options
I've just started the first job that pays in the middle of every month (15th). It's always previous been the end of the month for me and I'm not handling my finances as well as I used to because of it.

I want to be paid on the end of each month again, so. I'm looking for a work-around.

Is there any ways I can do this?? (Ideas so far) :

- Contacting my bank and see if they can temporary hold my monthly wage on the 15th, and only release it so my bank account at the end of the month.

- Create another bank account to have my wage go into on the 15th of each month, then set a direct debit up for my wage to go from the new bank account, to my existing one at the end of the month. (Obviously I won't access the new bank account).

Any ideas?

This happened to me, The first thing i did was move my direct debits to the day after i got paid.
Then just look at how much you have left. I usually put some into savings even if its a small amount and the rest gets split into 4 for each week.

    Hope this helps!

The OP did. He wants the bank to delay the payment.

Please explain why this is an issue and what "not managing your finances as well" actually means. What do you actually do thats problematic (and why cant you stop doing that?)??

Just ignore the money in your account for 2 weeks!!! Simples!
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)

Idea 1 is a complete non-starter. Banks will not do this.

Idea 2 is an option, but if "Obviously I won't access the new bank account", then why not "Obviously I won't access original bank account" between the 15th and the end of the month?

Idea 3 is to change your regular standing orders and direct debits to pay out shortly after the 15th.
  • I het paid 15th. OH end of month. Works we between us. Agree would suggest moving DD dates to accomodate the change. This normall isnt a problem

Proper budgeting for the full month would go some way to resolving your problems.
Retired at age 56 after having "light bulb moment" due to reading MSE and its forums. Have been converted to the "budget to zero" concept and use YNAB for all monthly budgeting and long term goals.
