Saving/ Investment for Childeren

Hi All,
We have 2 kids, daughter turning 17 in few days and son aged 8.
They have saved money £1000 ecah and HSBS saving accounts in which they merely get few pounds every month.
Any suggesttions for best investemnet/ saving strategy (5Year/ 10 Year) will be higly appreciated.
