Hi hope someone can give me some advice.
We have sky multi room with sky + in the living room and the bog standard sky box upstairs. We also live in an area with no Freeview until 2009.
My dilemma is that my daughter wants a dvd recorder for Christmas but wants it to work in the same way the Sky+ works ie the ability to record two channels at the same time and use live pause.
She's been told by an SA in Curry's that they won't work with Sky is this correct, any advice would be appreciated.

With regard to recording one channel while watching another, yes they're right. Recorders with this feature have built-in (Freeview) tuners.Ms-Money-Penny wrote: »She's been told by an SA in Curry's that they won't work with Sky is this correct, any advice would be appreciated.
Of course, there's nothing to stop her using a DVD recorder, but it'll only record what's coming out of the (analogue) aerial or Sky box.
Not sure about the pause live TV feature. There may be some recorders that'll do this with analogue terrestrial TV. Have a look at the Panasonic range. They've had this feature for some time because they use the DVD-RAM format which supports it, even on recorders that don't have a hard drive.
Whatever you get, it won't work as seamlessly as Sky+. Maybe things will improve when Freesat (not to be confused with Freesat from Sky) is launched next year.0 -
Ms-Money-Penny asked about her daughter wanting to be able to record two
channels at the same time not watrch one while recording one. Welliesorter's reply did not seem to answer this. Just curious really; maybe her daughter is confused. I have a small TV in my bedroom where I can watch one programme while recording another. In my daughters house they seem to have every modern entertainment device every invented but I have never heard of recording two programmes a one time - I'll ask tomorrow.0 -
A lot of Freeview HD recorders have two tuners that aloow you to record two channels at once. V+ from Virgin allows you to record two channels whilst watching a third.
I don't see hwo a DVD recorder could record two channels at once if it only has one DVD drive in it. The problem is if you using Sky is that you only have one signal coming out of the skybox so you would only be able to record one channel. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
Thanks for all your replies i'll up date my daughter.0

The dvd recorders that let you record 2 things at once have 2 seperate tuners and a hard drive in them - they don't save directly to dvd whhen you are recording tv. My DVD recorder has a built in hard drive which allows me to pause tv. It buffers it on to the hard drive and you play catch up with it.0
