Service at dealer or Halfords

If in warranty, use the main dealer.
Otherwise go to an independent.0 -
Pros for dealer & Halfords: They are both big organisations with a reputation to protect and have the resources to compensate you if they cause a problem and cannot wriggle out of liability for it.

Halfords. Reputation. :rotfl:
Yes, they do have one... and it's not good.

You wouldn't take your bike to a garage for a service, so why would you take your car to Halfords?
I've seen 'new' bikes purchased from Halfords that have been prepped with the forks on the wrong way around, so I wouldn't let them within a mile of my car.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

Like Halfords give a s**t about their reputation...0 -
Halfords are abysmal.
My DD made the mistake of booking her car in there due to their loss leader price for MOT & service, and was told all sorts of stuff needed doing which added up to about a grand. Not MOT failures, just service stuff...hmmm...
She agreed only to the one thing she knew was an issue (and had already had another estimate for, which was on a par) and I overheard her on the phone clearly saying ''You may do only this repair, at £xxx price, and can you confirm that the price includes VAT?''
''Yes'', they said.
We then went to collect her car and on the phone earlier they tried to suggest it would be another sixty quid on top. So Mum (me) went with her and we both did our best dagger stares at the guy as he wriggled to explain what the extra £60-odd was.
''VAT'' was his first excuse.
My DD calmly shook her head & pointed out the sum added wasn't 20% and in any case the original price included VAT.
Cue him fiddling with his computer and opening & shutting drawers:
''Errmm...I can't tell, but it looks like some extra parts to fit the part'' he then floundered with (i.e. the standard bolts, that come with it, to fit the part they'd already quoted to fit...!).
Anyway we refused to pay more and demanded the Manager who looked sheepish & honoured the first price.
We will NEVER EVER return.
Only afterwards did I learn from Googling them that Halfords Autocentre bought out Nationwide Autocentre, a company I'd had a similar run-in with ten years back and had always vowed never to return to. I reckon I even recognised the lying git as one of the employees from Nationwide.
Steer clear, literally.
Go to your local independent garage as they will be cheaper than the Dealer.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
