Actually very true. DWP ain't interested in your costs. If you are married you need to prove you are separated. If you are still sharing costs, bank accounts or even living in the same house that becomes very difficult to prove.0 -

Plus a tenancy means nothing if your joint tenants as they are equal as liable for the rent and to be living there unless the council will step in or they have funds for private tenancy.
I know couples who have separated and had to stay with each other til something else happened. They paid half for general bills like electric etc.All household tasks were there own responsibility.
That’s the problem when people add new questions to somebody else’s thread. Original OP had house about to go on market. I have no doubt that there are couples who separate but remain living in the same property for practical reasons. However demonstrating financial separation is more difficult with a joint tenancy after 18 years.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated.
