I had my tv aerial repositioned. I am very puzzled esp in the afternoon I lose some channels esp. 3,4,5 and 6 and usually they are back on later on. The other two TVs in the house are not affected. My bedroom is the only one affected have emailed aerial man and have not heard anything. I have retuned still no joy. The channels were working fine before. Anybody got any idea what the problem is? I will keep pestering aerial man for an answer. Thanks :money:

If it's 1 aerial then he'd have (re)used a splitter and/or booster for 3 TV's. It could be the bedroom TV is at the end of the longest cable, therefore getting the most degraded signal or it could just be a dodgy cable or connector. Pulling the connectors out at each end of the effected TV and plugging back in may resolve it.

If it was working fine before then the signal is not as strong as it was so the aerial needs re-aligning.

Some TVs require a stronger signal than others, that may explain why only one is affected.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.

I forgot to mention it is an outdoor digital aerial.

Why did he re-position it in the first place BTW?

To stop pigeons from perching he also installed bird spikes.

Well I'd guess the anti bird spikes might be de-tuning the antenna abit ? Years ago, when pigeons perched on mine , I used to get a poorer signal on BBC 1 ! This was in the days of analog tv .

Incidentally, theres no such thing as a "digital" aerial Its just an aerial covering something like 400-800 Mhz aprox.. Either way you definitely wanna get him back...................how much did he charge for the first visit ? Good luck !

You don’t tell us exactly how the aerial was re-positioned but it’s seems more than likely it’s the move that’s caused the problem.

Digital TV channels are grouped together prior to transmission in a process called multiplexing; e.g... BBC1, BBC2 & BBC 4 may be on one multiplex channel and ITV, Ch4 and Ch5 on another transmission channel.

If your aerial is poorly positioned or you live in a weak’ish signal area you can often find that ‘groups’ of TV channels may be unobtainable at times, whilst other ‘groups’ of channels are unaffected. The problem you describe is symptomatic of poor or marginal TV signal reception strength.

    Possible causes of your problem:

Aerial is now in a position where it is being partially shielded from your local TV transmitter by nearby buildings, trees or other obstructions.
The aerial was not aligned correctly after the move,.. or perhaps it’s been blown out of alignment by strong wind,... or it has drooped due to inadequate support brackets/screws.
The cable connection to the aerial hasn’t been made securely.
Possible break in the co-ax cable caused by the aerial re-positioning.
Perhaps your aerial is now just inadequate for its new position and you’ll need to upgrade to a better aerial; i.e. a high-gain TV aerial.
    et al.......

When I added a new TV in my house recently it was on quite a long run of co-ax cable and it suffered from the same symptoms you describe. My other TVs had worked perfectly for years on the existing aerial but to run the new TV (in a remote part of my house) an upgrade to a better high-gain TV aerial was required.

Do you have any hdmi devices plugged into this TV? I was having an issue with my TV dropping a whole group of channels randomly. It turned out after much messing about and retuning that it was a dodgy hdmi lead. It would only happen when my nvidia sheild TV was turned on. I would be watching YouTube on the shield, switch the TV input to DTV and half my channels were gone with no signal. When I put the shield into standby, the channels would come back. Changed the lead to shielded 1 and it doesn't happen now. Must of been some weird inference caused by a cheap hdmi

Aerial man should have a meter to check the terminated signal at every outlet is within the guideline of 45 to 65 deciBels ref 1 microVolt.

If the same 3-way split has been reused then the installer needs to come back to correct.

UV-resistant ty-raps can be used to deter birds perching and (being plastic) should not affect the aerial working. Anything metal is a no no!

Reducing aerial height is usually a bad thing.

Some aerials need careful positioning (crabbed up/down, left/right. gore aft in a cube of space) to get the sweet spot where all multiplex frequencies are received equally. A pro meter (ideally with spectrum analyser display) will aid that.

Basically aerial man needs to come back and fix. (Assuming he didn't arrive on horseback).

Check if the chap is a member of one of the aerial trade associations? e.g. CAI or RDI
