Capital One checker tool

Options
Hi everyone,

I can't believe I haven't posted on this site since 2012 lol.

So, I'm just trying to go through all my paperwork to see if I had any ppi on any previous credit cards/loans. Of course, most of my original paperwork went into the shredder.

I had a Capital One credit card in around 2005 and remember having a PPI talk with them whilst I was activating the card. I cannot remember whether I actually had PPI or not.

I inputted my details into the Capital One PPI checker which came back saying I never had PPI (which is possible). I'd just like to know whether this tool is 100% accurate or would it be worth me sending an SAR?

Thanks in advance.

SARs are free, it's up to you.

Did you ever borrow on the card outside of the interest free period? If no, then even if you had PPI, you wouldnt have paid anything.

Yeah, I know the SAR is free, but thanks. Before sending an SAR I simply wondered whether the checker tool is accurate.

Dunstonh: This card was never interest free. There was always interest on the card.

Every card has an interest free period - you just needed to clear it in full each month.

What he means is, if you had PPI but paid your card off in full every month you'd never pay any PPI. If you carried a balance you could simply look at your statements which would tell you if you paid it, it would be listed on every statement.

SAR costs you nothing so you can do it but there's no guarantee it will show any different to what you have been told.

    Thanks for your replies.
There was no interest free period (the interest was also quite high) and I've never paid the card in full each month.
Like I said in my original post, all the paperwork went in the shredder. I have no actual statements to check.
But yes, I'll do an SAR but the reality is that they most likely won't have any of my account details stored since it's such a long time ago.

There is always an interest -free period on every credit card, this is the time from purchase to the payment due date of the subsequent bill.
Regardless, if you never paid in full then PPI would have been itemised on each monthly statement if you had the insurance. It was a percentage of the outstanding balance.

The Bank have already told you that you didn't have PPI, so expect nothing from your Subject Access Request and you won't be disappointed.

Ok, sorry I misunderstood you all, with regards to the interest free period.
If I can’t find any of my original paperwork I will just leave it at that.
