Noddle / Credit Karma, new terms

I received an email a few days ago about Noddle becoming part of "Credit Karma" and went to log into my profile on the website this morning.

I was greeted with a new consent page for processing and use of personal information.

Having a look at this it appears that they just want to soak up any and all information about it's customers, use that to profile customers more aggressively to sell more products and it appears process that data in the USA.

They're unlikely to get much useful information from me as I don't use apps or log in from a phone, however.....

I declined to accept

Have I understood correctly - I thought we were supposed to have better data protection laws and control than this.

What are the current alternatives ?

If by alternatives you mean CRAs, then it's Experian and Equifax.

But they're not alternatives as such, as it depends on reporting practices

What's the data protection concern you have?

My concern is about data being transferred to the US and handled in accordance with their laws rather than ours.

The cookie page makes this explicit, and there are no options for easily managing cookies, so it's a US style go to 200 websites to opt out, rather than simply declined the ones that are not absolutely necessary.

On the alternatives, it's simply for keeping an eye on whatever rating someone gives and any searches run against me to protect against identity theft.

They'll need to handle EU data under GDPR regs, so if they're not, you should raise it with the ICO.

Remember to ignore the ratings that any of them give you. Not because of data protection, but because they're nonsense.

I have had contact with the ICO before, deeply unimpressed.

Based on what I have seen, my view is that while Noddle may have been complying with GDPR until recently, I have severe doubts now.

The ratings are only for mild interest, I have no interest in "improving" my score, my main interest is on preventing identity theft.

Noddle use TransUnion data so alternatively sign up with Totally Money or Money Supermarket credit monitor apps which access the same data.
