No building regulations

Being young & naive- 15 years ago we had a builder extend the kitchen of our terraced house out into the old coal shed and toilet.
At this time, he told us that we didn’t need any permission & stupidly we went with the flow.
We quickly learnt that this was not true & we should of course have obtained building regs etc.
Our ex neighbor made a complaint just because she could& this resulted in a visit from a local authority building inspector who said they would need to inspect the works etc. He also said they would note the extension on file & we would have problems selling.
We never did anything about this as quite simply we didn’t have the money
Fast forward 15 years & we would like to move house 😐
What can we do here?
I’ve read about indemnity insurance - but worry that will not work as local authority was notified?
Any suggestions?

Recent notification is what would worry insurers - nothing happening in the past 15 years shouldn't be an issue.0

Well, as building control have done nothing about the extension in 15 yrs other than note it on file, it's clear that nothing will happen and an indemnity would be pointless. An indemnity only protects the policyholder if a council decides to take action, won't help if an extension falls down.If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0
