ive been trying to burn a movie i downloaded to dvd,,no luck at all, so i decided to check the dvd drive was working, put in a dvd and it wont play. Ive been trying to remember if ive ever actualy used it, ive only had the laptop sinse august. Its a dell inspiration 1501 by the way. So I wanted to find out what dvd drive it has and cant even find it on my system. By the way, when i put the dvd in, the green light blinks and you can hear something going on in there but then nothing. Can anyone help please.

Does the drive spin/light up/look otherwise functional? If yes, try reinstalling the drivers that came with the laptop. If you can't find the Dell CD check on their website under 'support-->drivers and downloads'.0

right,ive done this, it doesnt mention a DVD/CD, does that mean its vanished from my system?0 -
Try this
Click on the start menu.
In the search box type in regedit
Back up your registry
Maximize the H_Key_Local_Machine and then go ahead and browse until you find the following
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\!!4D36E965-E325-11!CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
In the right panel you should see UpperFilter and LowerFilter you want to click on each “filter” key and hit delete.
Click yes when it asks to confirm if you wish to delete the key.
Restart Windows.
Now see if your dvd drive is recognised0 -

Lesson to be learned; don't let "friends" delete stuff from your machine because you "don't need it" :Tgreat:beer: this worked thanksYou'll always miss 100% of the shots you don't take - Wayne Gretzky
