Buying second hand - but no logbook

Son is interested in buying a car, but seller says logbook is missing.

What happens - assuming it's all legit? or is it?

Value £4500 ish

Seems to be a serial private seller - or in other words someone who may be actually a trader.

why should you have to park it off road until a new v5 arrives

the seller should have paid £27 and got replacement before advertising

    This.

If seller is registered keeper then they can get a new logbook.

"Serial private seller" quite often means "off-the-record trader who won't take responsibility for any issues".

Run a mile, it's not worth the risk - £4.5k is plenty to get a decent motor from a proper/reputable trader, older or higher mileage maybe but a much better idea.

    Look elsewhere.
  • I bet the logbook loan company know where the logbook is.

    Run away.
  • As above, dont buy the car.
  • Do not buy without a logbook.

It will cost around 0.6% of the selling price to get a new logbook from DVLA.

If the seller cannot provide you with logbook - you are in no obligation to buy.
