Section 88

Can I drive in France under Section 88 Road Traffic Act?. The letter ex DVLA says it "might not be accepted" abroad. By phone. they said to check - any suggestions as to how?

What's the reason for you being under section 88? If it's this then the answer seems to be No.

Thanks, but that is not the reason. I (foolishly) surrendered my licence a week before undergoing triple A aneurism repair. Now, 12 months later, I had to give measurements of a non-existent aneurism! I have forwarded hospital confirmation of repair, but I can get no estimate of as to when there will be a decision/renewal. This has been going on since Christmas. According to the DVLA ( by telephone) five months wait is not exceptional!

I'd say not as you don't hold a valid driving licence and our road traffic act will not apply in France

Exactly. You either have a licence or not.
