When an energy company states that they charge the 1st 1465kWh per quarter at a certain rate how may days are they using in that quarter?
Is it 365.25days/4 = 91.3125 days?

91 days-though the higher unit price will be pro-rata'd depending on how many days the quarter covers (eg if the reading date means your quarter is only 85 days the number of units at the higher rate will be slightly less and so on)

The Southern Electric (gas) equivalent is the first 1143 kwh, and for the electric (eastern region) 225.
No doubt the comparison sites take this into account.
The trend is towards 6 monthly bills.

Yeah, calculated on 91 days but when your billing cycle produces the bill may cause pro-rata as Karen says.

Worth noting that some Suppliers also do seasonal weighting whereby your winter quarter has a higher tier 1 price and summer is lower.

  • Even though most suppliers will quote the threshold figures per quarter, when it comes to the actual billing calculations most are pro-rata'd based on a 365 day year i.e. if the bill covers 80 days then the amount of units charged at the higher rate would be 900/365 * 80 (in this example the higher rate threshold is 900 per year, however the supplier would probably state 225 per quarter).

Just out of interest do you know which suppliers do this as it is not something I was aware of?
