Worm compost

I will shortly harvest my first batch of worm compost. Have to persuade the worms to migrate into the next bin first. Would putting old container soil in and mixing their dinner into it be a good idea?

The compost they have made is beautiful stuff, in so far as one can ascribe beauty to such a thing. How best to use it?

I need to empty out most of my containers and start again (hence query above about maybe using some of it in the wormery) as I was away at a crucial time and many of the plants suffered a horrible death.

Should I re-use the container soil/compost and add some of the worm compost? Just use worm compost? Buy new stuff and mix in worm compost? Or just use it to improve the soil in the flower beds? Limited quantity of worm compost so it will be lost in the flower bed unless I just concentrate on a little patch.

I got one late Winter but as of yet little compost is at the bottom. I have two trays currently used not including the sump. I was planning to use some of it in compost just a little here and there or as a mulch

It's taken a year to get a full bin. As a singleton with an abhorrence of throwing food away I don't have a lot of food waste.

At one stage they preferred newspaper and cardboard to egg shells and apple cores, so I obviously wasn't chopping/crushing things small enough for them. There seems to have been a major acceleration in activity after I started using tea leaves instead of bags.

Oh I tend to crush the egg shells in a small mixer. I also fed them some cheap porridge, cereals, pasta and even flour that was out of date. I just about to put the 3rd section up soon. I keep mine in garage which is sheltered and not to warm

I use a standard black compost bin, worms migrate to the top, dig out from the bottom once a year

Bulk out kitchen waste with shredded paper and soft garden stuff

Stopped putting tea bags in they don't compost.

I sieve and put the big stuff back, avacado skins and fruit stones go round a few times.
