Renewing Driving Licence

Hi,

My driving licence is soon to expire so I am trying to renew it online. I get to the end of part 1 'Authentication' and get the following message:

Sorry you cannot continue with your online application.

Your licence is no longer valid and must be renewed. To do this the photo on your licence must be changed.

It has not been possible to use your passport photo on your driving licence as DVLA must be able to confirm your identity online and your UK passport must be valid.

I don't understand as the passport I am using is brand new with a new photo as I applied for a new Passport and Driving licence in January as I was changing my maiden name to my married name.

Can anyone help?

OP, isn't the simplest thing just to get a new photo taken for the DL application?

Also be wary doing it on line. I renewed mine in mid July (expired at the end of July) and they renewed it 15 days earlier than the expiry of my old one. Bloody cheek of it!

Mind you it's the first time in 20 odd years I had to pay to renew it.

If you applied at the same time the new passport may not have been on the computer when the DVLA checked it.

Are they only advising you now?

We need the OP to come back and clarify, but the interpretation to me is that they applied for and received a replacement driving licence in the new name in January, and has now applied for a renewal of the licence because it expires soon.
