Have a look at the link for some info on Scottish court procedures https://www.scotcourts.gov.uk/coming-to-court/attending-a-court/attending-a-criminal-court.

The legal system is different from England, and the Sentencing Council information posted above is for England and Wales. There is no direct Scottish equivalent, and sentencing can vary a lot for social security offences.

You say your husband has savings, why not use them to pay back all or part of your debt?

    Removed as requested.
Unlike some here, I am not omniscient. If I am wrong correct me. I won't take offence.

I wouldn't worry too much. Most people just get told off a bit and at worst get a few hours community work, but you never get made to pay it back anyway. That's why so many people do it - there's no deterrent whatsoever. Anyone can do it and never have to pay a penny back. It's a free for all. Might even do it myself one day. £20k for free & all I'll need to do is a few hours of unpaid work as punishment. Happy days.

That's rubbish, even those that are not prosecuted have to pay it back. Those that are generally pay fines along with paying the debt back. Given it's not paid in one go or even large amounts usually but it's a ball and chain for many years.
