I Have a Wii!

Thanks to all those that gave me the confidence to get a Wii (Sports) from Germany. It has arrived and am off out tomorrow to get an adapter. What I would like to know is what else I need. I have never had a games console, so am a little scared!

Have done a search on the boards, so please don't flame me!

Should I get Play, if so where from. Someone said about a recharger, and getting another Nunchuck? What about the Endless Ocean game, that looks good.

Thanks again for everyone's advice.

You're lucky, Amazon.de and Amazon.fr are now refusing to ship to the UK.

If you want to play multiplayer games you need another remote and preferably another nunchuck. You can get another remote for £30 or £35 with Wii play, most people go for the second option as you get a lot more mini games with it. However, you can't get Wii play anywhere in the UK now either so you may have to import one if you want that.

It's hard to recommend games without knowing what sort of games you like. Have a look here for a list of Wii games in score order, if the reviews are favourable it should be pretty good. That site averages scores from various websites so they tend to be fairly accurate.

  • Me and the Dips will be playing. They are 6, and love most things, they will love the sports. Want to be able to play as a family most of the time. They do like the Simpsons, Sponge Bob, Spiderman, Transformers, theme parks etc etc
  • Take a look at Asda, Argos & Tesco online, they are doing a lot of wii games for under 20 quid.

You should have the wii sports game with the console I assume which your kids will love.

I would say that your next purchase should be wii play (a selection of mini games with an extra wii remote) but dont spend silly money on it, last time I saw one on ebay it was going for about £60. After xmas you will be able to pick one up for about £32ish. If you can't pick up wii play at a reasonable price then you will need an extra remote, I think they should be easy enough to get hold of.

    Games I would recommend are:

brain academy - great fun for the whole family
monkeyball banana blitz - a maze game with lots of mini games
carnival games - lots of fairground mini games
ea playground - lots of mini games - basketball, dodgeball, hopscotch etc
thrillville - run your own theme park
    trauma centre - perform ops
    boogie - sing & dance
    cooking mama - prepare meals
excite truck - monster truck racing
    any of the mario games

    Hope this helps.

For info, Santa is bringing a Wii to our house this Christmas. Our initial games are Wii Sports, Wii Play, MArio Party 8 and Mariop and Sonic at the Olympics.

Mario Galaxy for the Wii is superb and i'd recommend it.

As for batteries, personally I would go for a half decent "smart" battery charger and a few packs of AA 2100ma+ nimh batteries rather than a dedicated wiimote charging stand (most of which seem to use AAA lower capacity batteries in a pack and are "dumb", slow chargers).
Aldi's do fairly good rechargable batteries very cheap, although their charger is very basic (so I would buy a better one from elsewhere).

I use the charger* I bought for my digital camera to charge up the batteries for my Wii motes, it also means that any downtime when the batteries run out is minimised (I normally have spares sat charged on the side), and of course you can use the batteries in other things.

    *I use the "Speedy box"
, which is "smart" in that it can fully discharge batteries prior to recharging (helps keep the batteries in good condition), and charges them until they are showing the right level of charge, as opposed to a "dumb" charger which just runs off a timer (so if your batteries are high capacity ones they might not get fully charged, whilst low capacity batteries might get over charged).
  • Thanks for all the advice chaps, have got myself a nunchuck, and still looking for Play. Wasn't Toys R Us doing a reduced price for Mario for a few days, can't seem to find it anyway.
Nilrem - am going to order the charger - looks good.
  • Just out of interest what is the charger for? My wife's friend said her hubby got a Wii from Germany and simply cut off the plug and replaced with a U.K. one.
Also I was thinking what would it cost to actually go to Germany or france and buy a Wii to bring home, or better still buy 2 and sell the second to cover travel costs. Surely I could be there and back within a day. Is this a silly idea and are their any potential problems i.e. customs or tax or something like that?
  • Evening all,

Anyone near Burton On Trent wanting a wii look at this.

Would make your wii just under £200.
