Let us know how the matter is resolved.0

Whilst there is no excuse for the non service that the OP has received the only thing I would say is that if you had left an account untouched for 10 years or more and suddenly you go in and want to close it off it would ring alarm bells - just saying.0

I had a similar problem with NatWest about ten years ago...
Anyway, I suggest that you use borrowed money to buy the car in question if you are really sure that it is the right purchase for you. When the case is eventually resolved, NatWest will be obliged to pay any fees and interest arising from the loan.0 -
Agree with what is above an untouched account dormant for 10 years then suddenly you pop up asking to withdraw everything course it looks suspicious.0

Yes, heavens forbid anyone using a savings account for long term savings.Personal Responsibility - Sad but True

for long term savings.
Looking at the rates available on this account, it is surprising that the OP stuck with it for so long?0 -

Neither here nor there, the OP has done everything correctly, it is NW system or processes that appear at fault.
See my posts above.
I am not arguing about the correctness of his actions, merely commenting that it is surprising that he stuck with poor rates for so long - perhaps he just wasn't particularly concerned about a return.0 -
You should request a copy of the call recordings as a matter of course. This alone will trigger the complaints departments involvement to some extent.
I know people will doubt how effective this course of action will be but I assure you they will want to know why you've requested it and whilst they certainly won't listen to them, they will evaluate the situation and consider the implications!
It won't hurt and they have to provide this data to you.
Good luck0
