PPI mix up?

Options
I claimed for PPI and some accounts were joint with my ex. I gave both of our details on the original online form.
I received letters giving notice of receiving my claim and asking for further details but they were not replied too. Strangely they came addressed to myself and rather than my ex partner, just a random name of Donald with the same surname as me 🤷🏻 I had not married my ex partner so he has a completely different name and I dont know a Donald.

Anyway, I had been unwell and in hospital so had no further correspondence but I received an offer and was sent a cheque, both had my name and ‘Donald’ (with my surname) on. My daughter tried to pay the cheque into my account. Staff told her that because it wasnt hers she had to use the ATM so thats what she did and it showed in my account. I then got a letter saying it had been cancelled because it wasnt in my name. I called the bank to find out more, explained what had happened and that it had my name on it and I had no clue why they put ‘Donald’ on there too. They seemed very miffed by it too and have asked for time to look into it. I have allowed this but cant help but wonder, who, what, why?

Im also peed to learn they will only pay me half because my ex can claim half even though we split after years of DV, he left me to pay the loans and mortgage off by myself which all came from my account, has never sent a penny for our children and runs rings around the cmo/csa jumping jobs and not registering at an address so owes me around £20k. I know he wont claim this ppi because he may believe it runs a risk of me being closer to finding his address to drag him to court so the banks the only one who will benefit from it. Booo:(

Anyone had this different name thing happen before, ive been in hospital through this, which theyre aware of, can I extend my complaint over it all?

Thanks in advance for any advice. :)

You'll have to wait for their investigation to finish regarding the odd name.
It's usualy for the banks to split redress 50/50 if there are two people who were named on the policy, but even then, they wouldn't give you his address anyway.

To be honest many lenders wouldn’t have considered your complaint at all without your ex’s joint authority - even FOS won’t consider without all parties being involved. So odd name aside seems like a result to me.

    Thanks for your replies guys.

I had a call today and they have paid me half and are continuing to look into the false name on the paperwork.

As said I am grateful to get at least half, its just a shame really as I know I couldnt get his address from the bank but he sort of walks on tip toes to be sure I dont get too close cause court would have a field day with him plus he knows I paid the debts so he is never going to claim that money back.

I do know where he is but I dont have the house number, if I wasnt disabled id of had it long before now.
I had planned to get a new mobility scooter and treat my kids cause im in hospital alot but I wont have enough to do that now but oh well.
Shame they dont have a policy to pay the claimant if their ex partner never claims but I guess they dont want to give money back thay easy lol.

You have no right to your ex's redress I'm afraid.

It doesn't matter that he might have left you saddled with the debt to pay.
He owes you that money, the bank doesn't.

    Sorry.
