Kobo on Windows 10

Haven't used my kobo Glo e-reader for ages. Fired it up and won't download books. Is it incompatible with 10? Tried to factory reset and when I have entered WiFi password it says there's been a problem, just goes around in a loop. I always found it moody, even when it actually worked. Just wish I bought a Kindle instead.

Ready to bin it now, any suggestions?

As its a 7 year old device the most obvious things to check here are that if you've had a Wifi upgrade try knocking the connection standards down a bit to see if it will connect. In theory a Wireless N connection should be backwards compatible but some devices don't like it.

Your WIFI on 5GHz but the reader is 2.4GHz?

Router blocking access and you need to manually allow it?

What has the Kobo got to do with windows 10? You dont need a PC to use it.

You might have missed out on a vital firmware/software update which Kobo brought out a few months ago to make certain older devices compliant with newer wifi security needs. Registered users were contacted by Kobo via email at the time. I updated an old Mini and original Touch and both are working fine. I'm not sure if Glos were affected so maybe some googling would clarify.

As Datostar said there was a firmware update for older Kobo's. Suggest checking the kobo threads on mobileread plenty about them on there.
  • It won't let me get online, I enter my wifi password and says: "something went wrong...please try again". In hindsight I maybe shouldn't of factory reset it, and instead should of updated software although my internet was faulty at that time so unable to.

Too much work!! I used to have a kindle app on my tablet and it worked perfectly, if I ever go down the E-reader route again I know which one to choose next time.

That's not a problem with the device that's a problem of your making, if you used it it would have updated itself and you wouldn't be in this situation.

Anyway the Glo has had multiple updates according to this, most recent being last month:

So it should be easy enough to get it up to date by presumably connecting it to a computer.
