Does anyone know where I can volunteer to help homeless people over Christmas? I have seen the Crisis page, but these are all in London. I live in North Hampshire - not far from Reading.

Contact your local salvation army i know they give hot meals to the homeless at xmas and new year, and are always looking for volunteers to help.
  • Hi NumboJumbo,

If you're interested in volunteering this Christmas, why not try searching for volunteering opportunities on vinspired.com? You can search for volunteering opportunities by organisation, interest or area. We currently offer many Christmas opportunities that can be found by clicking opportunities and then selecting 'christmas volunteering' in the categories section.

I hope you find this helpful!

    Cheers,

And get your skates on: if you need a CRB for your Christmas volunteering (which you will if you are working with children or vulnerable adults) it will take time to come through, and even if you don't need a CRB the organisation will probably want to take up references, and may offer training, starting round about now ...

For one-off volunteering opportunities you're best contacting your local volunteer centre directly and they should have a list of the organisations who are currently doing recruitment for one off's.

You MAY need to be CRB checked by the recruiting organisation, but in most one offs its not needed. Even if you're working with children or vulnerable people a CRB isn't necessary so long as you're being supervised at all times and not left alone with said vulnerable person.
  • Hi All

    Quick question everyone.
I'm helping the London Mayor and a Borough council find
a volunteer for a clothes swopping/swishing event they are doing next
    Saturday ( November 27th)
Can i post requests like that on this site?

    Thanks All

    Regards

    Storm
  • I've found in the past a lot of people want to help around Christmas time (myself included) but then have left it too late to offer. Also you've got to make sure you can actually give up the time to help out over a few days...not just one day so you can feel good about yourself! (myself included in that bit too!)

  • I started voluntary work in late June and I got it by just asking in the charity shop. I'm still there and I like it. =)

    Good luck on finding some.

  • Hi

You can volunteer for lots of things including working with the homeless in Wales by googling volunteer Wales.
