PC not recognising new RAM

Hi,

Sorry if this is a question that gets asked all the time, but to be honest I find the whole thing a bit of a minefield and I get a bit lost...

Basically I wanted to put some more RAM in my desktop PC - it came with 512MB and I wanted to double it to 1GB.

I ran the Crucial memory advisor and it wasn't much help as my exact model wasn't listed (it's an Evesham Evolution 3000 Blue Beast). I found out thanks to Google that I have an MSI i865PE motherboard, the spec of which says :
Supported RAM Technology: DDR SDRAM
RAM Installed ( Max ): 0 MB / 4 GB (max)
Supported RAM Speed: PC2100, PC2700, PC3200
RAM Features: Unbuffered, two DDR channels

So I bought some "512MB 184-pin unbuffered DIMM DDR PC3200" from Dabs. I've just installed it and the PC boots up as normal but isn't recognising the new memory.

I don't know what to do from here. Could anyone advise?

Thanks

Did you purchase the exact same RAM with the same CL latency value?

If you have exhausted every other possibility and you are sure that the RAM is sitting pretty, you should investigate the difference between High and Low Density memory.

Sorry guys, I have no idea what either of those means :o

I thought I was buying the same RAM with the limited info I could find out as to what I needed. What's a CL latency value and where do I find it?

    It's OK, it's working now.

I opened the case again and took the RAM out, then put it back again. There was an extra little 'click'.

I am now officially a muppet and am taking lessons in pushing RAM in all the way.

    Thanks for your help anyway.

Yes you do sometimes have to use quite a bit of pressure to insert RAM home.
