Grass growing through plants

Very true. The majority will put up with less than optimum conditions.With plants also, sometimes they will surprise you by where they will actually thrive depsite the labels on them.
Here's a picture showing part of our garden about a week ago. You can see we use forget-me-nots, asters and other ground covering plants to stop the soil being bare. Other plants will come up through and around these, each taking their turn to bloom. If you look carefully there are lupins, geraniums and aquilegias, among others, poking through. (clicky)
