NHS Overtime Question

...It throws up bizarre things like take home pay from overtime (so over 37.5 hrs) is worth less than non- overtime pay. E.G in central London its difficult to recruit & retain front line staff - so they get allowances; +25% unsocial, +20% inner London. So your standard pay, which has the £12k tax free allowance is paid at 145%. Overtime is paid at 150% but is fully taxed so take home pay per hour is less...
Your average take home pay per hour may be less, but you are still taking home more pay than you would without the overtime. This must be true of many jobs, especially if you aren't paid extra for overtime. I don't see this as bizarre. It's just the inevitable consequence of tax allowances (and talking about "take home pay"). As you say, the OP doesn't have to work overtime.0 -
When I worked P/T for the NHS, I got the bank holiday/Sunday/Saturday/night enhancements paid (I think that it was 30% for nights/Saturdays and 60% for Sundays/bank holidays), whether these were part of my "normal" hours or additional hours I'd been asked to cover.
So if I covered a BH shift, I'd get paid normal rates + 60% enhancement.
