I have an insurance policy in the event of redundancy to cover my home mortgage. However, the policy requires me to sign-on for Jobseeker's Allowance. I would much rather not claim JSA particularly as it may push me into a role that I don't want to take. Question:
Comments appreciated
- To what extent does the Jobcentre push you into a role that you don't want? I have been earning very well - and I don't want to have to take a massive cut in salary just for the Job Centre to get me off JSA

JSA has been mostly replaced by UC. As for the terms of your insurance, that's up to you.
DWP do push you into a fairly suitable role to start with. So you would be expected to look for a reasonably similar role as you were doing. Obvious 3-6 months down the line you may be pushed towards any role.0 -
JSA has been mostly replaced by UC.
Someone whose working NI contributions are sufficient and cover the relevant period (currently tax years 2016-17 and 2017-18) will qualify for the 'new style' (aka contributions based) JSA rather than UC, available for up to 12 months, after which you;d go onto (means tested) UC if you still hadn't found a job.0 -
great - thanks p00hsticks for this... So potentially, UC means tested may mean I won't get any further payments after two months, assuming I have sufficient savings / redundancy payment...0

Apologies -I failed to spot the typo in my post - it should be twelve months, not two.0 -

And was not the typo actually that Contribution-based JSA is paid for up to 6 months, not 12 months.0
