Wedding Dress ruined

I had my wedding dress dry cleaned and the colour came out of the bottom half of the dress. I took this back to the dry cleaner, an independent report was done that found the dry cleaner had fallowed the care label. The care label has the symbol for do not wash but also for professional wet clean process. The dry cleaner professionally wet cleaned the dress. I then took this up with The Wedding Club, the store I bought the dress from. This is still on going, they have contacted the designers but the designer are insisting the dress hasn't been washed properly! All I want is for the dress to be repaired, of course if that is not possible I would expect some sort of compensation! Do I not have any rights in this? I got married in April 2018 and had the dress cleaned in May 2018. It took awhile for the dry cleaners to sort it out before i could contact the store, but they were already aware that there was a problem. Clearly the care label is incorrect or there is something wrong with the fabric of the dress! Any advice, I dont know how to continue with this if the designer insists they are not at fault...The designer is based in Barcelona!?

Have the cleaners confirmed the exact process they used to clean it? Does that conform with the care label requirements? If they have conformed to the requirements (and can prove it) then the fault lies with the seller.

At the moment it sounds like you're "piggy in the middle" between the 2 companies.

PS - the location of the designer is irrelevant - what matters is the location of The Wedding Club.

The Wedding Club shows three locations, two in London and one in Birmingham, so that shouldn't be a problem.

You may have to raise a small claim naming both the dry cleaner and the Wedding Club and let the court sort out where responsibility lies, if they can't agree between themselves before it gets to that point.
  • Thank you for your advice. The wedding club have said its a manufacturing fault because they don't make the dresses and therefore they are not at fault, but they are being my liaison with the manufacturer/designer?

Your contract was with The Wedding Club, so even if it was a manufacturing fault, it is still TWC who you have to pursue
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

Even if they don't make them directly themselves, they are the ones taking your money and they are the ones who have the responsibility for ensuring the good supplied are fit for purpose. The contract of sale is between you and the supplier and that is the basis for your consumer rights.

If their sub contract production facilities are churning out rubbish, then that's a private matter between them and their sub contractors, and is of absolutely no relevance to you whatsoever.
