Cancelling SSE home services

We renewed the central heating cover with SSE on 4/4, it was expensive because our boiler was ancient.
Since then, we came into some money and had our boiler renewed. It all happened very quickly, if I'd known the new boiler was imminent I wouldn't have renewed SSE heating cover.
Anyway, I called to cancel the cover and they want 90% of the cost for the year to cancel.
The wording in their policy is as follows:

You may terminate this Agreement at any
time as long as you let us know. If you
terminate after the cooling off Period (14 days)
a termination charge will be payable for
the cost incurred and service provided
for the time on cover.

Now, given that I've only had cover since the 4/4, I can't figure out why they'd want me to pay 90% of the year's premium?
The cancellation figure they want means I'm as well keeping the cover.
If I cancel any other form of insurance early, I don't get charged for the whole year....
Help please!

I'm sure the supplier will be able to explain their charges to you in detail if you ask them.

According to the terms you refer to, the cost of cancellation is made up as follows:
    a) the cost of any work you have had carried out (e.g. service, etc)
    b) the cost you were on risk for based on a daily charge (i.e. annual cost/365 x days on risk)
    c) £5.00 administration fee

Btw, if you look on this site, you will find instances of people cancelling motor insurance where the cost of cancellation together with the cost of the time they have been on risk DOES exceed the annual cost of the premium originally quoted ;)
(and if you no longer own the vehicle, you can no longer legally insure it, so cover has to be cancelled.)
