Drone licence to

The CAA wants to charge a reasonable £16.60 for a drone licence - is this too much ?
People are already complaining...
Considering the havoc caused by drones recently - is this not too little ?

What technical help do you require with this?
There's nothing technical about this the thread - better suited to DT or MSA boards.0 -
Agree with DoaM: not a tech question about drones, sounds more like you want everyone to join you on a hobby horse.
Which people are complaining?
Which particular havoc event are you referring to?I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

Is it a game? Do we have to find amusing ways to complete the thread title?0

I think the questions to ask are: how would licensing affect responsible drone use, and does the cost of a licence correlate to responsible behaviour.
Personally, I can't see how a licence is going to make someone behave responsibly. Driving licences work because driving requires learned skills. Any idiot can fly a drone safely without training. Having a driving licence doesn't stop people from speeding or drink-driving. Laws and enforcement are required.
As for the cost, again, I can't see why someone paying £100 for a licence would be more responsible than someone paying £10 for one. The only thing cost does is discriminate against the poor by pricing them out of the market.
It all seems completely pointless to me, unless licensing ties a particular drone to an owner. If it does that, great. The licence should be free, or at most a token amount to cover costs.0 -
I believe its the government who want to introduce them, in order to be seen to be doing something post-Gatwick. The CAA have just been tasked to do the consultation as the agency that would have to manage the system

And of course all the 'bad' guys who fly drones at airports (if indeed there ever were any) will be the first in the queue to sign up to register !
P.S - This applies to ALL RC model aircraft not just 'drones' !!!
Despite the consultation document being called a 'drone registration scheme'

There is a possible serious side to Drone activity. There are possible Terrorist connections, not going to point them out but imagination should provide the possibilities.
Every one should be licensed: names and details of licensees should be taken, provable by ID and residential details, as in applying for bank accounts, etc. Plus names/details of any others who will use the drone. Contravening the usage terms should carry a suitable deterrent conviction and sentence.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

Yes its too much and you dont need to pay it if your in a club.
What havoc have they caused? I crashed my plane because a dont broke my windscreen. No your screen was unsafe as reported on your previous flight documents.
Drone causes havoc at airport, someone thought they saw a drone. No evidence of there being one. That someone should be flogged for causing a panic..
Drones and terrorists.. oh dear... scaremongering.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
