Just ask OFL and Hitachi for a copy of the agreement you signed. I doubt there's a grand conspiracy at play, I suspect the website is playing up or your account is locked/timed out.

No conspiracy just a very careless customer.

Thanks for the help guys. I got into my account on Hitachi credit and got hold of the agreement. It's the same interest rate on the contract, so looks like I have no case for complaint here.

is it possibly interest free for the first 12 months, and then 5% APR on the remaining balance? In which case, the idea is that you clear it within the first year.

Re-assured by this, I signed the paper work. I cannot remember if I checked the paper work (I usually do) but as we were moving in to a new house, there is a possibility I did not.

Sorry that's the only bit of your post that's relevant now.

It's just a lesson for you sadly.

Yes I agree. My mistake was trusting the sales person. Whether it was intentional or not, I should have checked what I was signing. Could be worse, it's not a mortgage i've signed up for, it's just a couch.

I think next time i'm about to sign something i'm going to ask the sales person if I can have 10 mins alone to check what i'm signing.

This is quite a good idea to sort out the dodgy deals - if a salesman/consultant/"window measurer" objects in any way to you perusing the small print, it's a sign to walk away.
