I phone tracking

Is it possible to find out if some sort of tracking device has been installed in a I phone without the owners knowledge.

There is a built-in one, "Find My iPhone" already there.

Only if you know the login for the account associated with that iPhone.

Not a "device" eg something physical.

    Possibly software.
And it may be as simple as "find friends" (not find my iPhone, which is different) has been enabled on it without the user knowing.
And it may have been enabled without their knowledge but they can look and find out.
Are you looking to remove ... or install ... your post is ambiguous.
P.s. it's worth adding, you would need access to the phone and the password to enable it

    Its possible.

Two options. Both require access to the phone and knowledge of the password.

    1. Someone switched on "find my friends" or "find my iphone". Check if they are enabled.

    2. Someone installed an app that gives out location. You can simply look through the apps on the phone for one you dont recognise. There are apps that do this for legitimate reasons but may of course not be used that way.

If the person in question has a car and their location is being tracked via that then there are of course better ways to track them without messing with their iphone. Specialist GPS trackers or just a cheap phone hidden in the car.
