Kitchen sink size and waste kit questions.

Hi all,

I am choosing a sink to put into my 600mm IKEA sink unit. It will be undermounted. Is 550mm or 540mm wide sink ok to fit into the unit? If so, can I even push it to 570mm?

Also, do I have to buy the waste and drainage kit from the same make? Is it usually cheaper to buy an universal one elsewhere?

Thanks.

What sort of worktop are you having with it - have you thought about the mould and water leak issues?

We are looking at solid surface (Minerva) or Quartz at the moment. Thanks.

    Hi

A 550 mm wide undermount stainless steel sink will be fine. I don’t think I have ever seen a 570 mm wide sink!

I would get the plumbing kit at the same time as the sink. Because if you got another make and for some reason it didn’t fit then you would have wasted your money and would still need to purchase the right plumbing kit.

We mainly sell Blanco sinks and taps and they do sink and tap sets which include everything and works out a fair bit cheaper than ordering each item separately.

If the carcase sides are 18mm (fairly std) and the unit is 60omm wide take off 36mm from 600 and the gap would be 564, undermount max size 560mm realistically and that would be tight.

We often buy ebay sink waste kits or just about any - toolstation, screwfix etc, just check if they are the small or large size, they have always fitted. B&Q sell sinks from multiple suppliers and wastes and traps from others, never a problem.

McAlpine waste fittings tend to be the best ones if buying from separate from sink.
