HMRC payment by cheque

Hello!

I wonder if someone could help me with this! I have underpaid tax and received a P800 stating the outstanding amount. When speaking to the tax office I was told that I should be able to make my payment online via my personal tax account however no option is given to make this payment. I believe my option now is to pay by cheque but I have some concerns regarding this as I am unsure if I can get a receipt.
Would I receive a letter from HMRC once the cheque is cashed?

Thank you

Comments

  • You would have a receipt when the cheque clears and it shows on your account, but having said that you could when you send the cheque request a written receipt.

Usually there are account details and a Unique Taxpayer Reference you can use to make payment by online banking.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.
