There may already be a default. Lowell buy defaulted debts. Have you checked your credit reports? However they have to keep to the original creditor's default date, which is likely early 2015. The entry would then disappear in early 2021.
As for a ccj, this could only happen following a court claim which is a process giving you the chance to defend yourself and argue that you did not owe any money.0 -

Which is what i refered too above.
Best advice is just to put your position in writing to Lowell, and leave it at that, ignore future contact.
Should they start a claim, defend it using the reasons already given, thats all you can do, thay say one thing, you say another, youve reached an impasse, unless something else changes, just leave it at that.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Thanks everyone for the replies, I really appreciate it.
I will have a look at the credit files ASAP although I can not recall seeing a default for Sky, or for that amount so no idea why it is not on my file. If it is not on the file what could that mean?0 -
Have they quoted the Sky account reference number? Do you know this IS your account they're pursuing. Do you still have your reference number?
Maybe it's for another random Sky account holder with a similar name??How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0 -
Just some more thoughts on this...
Lowell say that you opened an account with Sky in Feb 14 and then made a last payment in Dec 14. Does this sound like the right dates to you?
If this was a new Sky account, you'd have probably still been within your first 12/18 month contract, so you would owe ALL the monthly payments up to the end of your contract, if you cancelled early. Did you cancel your DD with the bank, once you'd made (what you thought) was your final payment. £140 sounds like it could be the remaining money owed within the contract period. (if 12 months)
Lowell say they wrote to you in Sept 17. Did you ever receive this letter? Have you lived at the same address throughout this whole period?
Our Sky DD with the bank shows our Sky Account Ref number in the description of the DD. Are you able to access your bank statements from this time (paper/on line?) to see what your Sky Account reference was/is.
Hope this helps you get to the bottom of this. Please update us to let us know how you get on.How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0 -
Hi Sea Shell,
Been helping my sister move house so not been able to reply.
So, they have not given me a Sky reference number and not entirely sure what bank account I would have paid for it with. I did have Sky a long time ago but then moved house, cancelled it and that was that (at least I thought).
I may have received a letter from Lowell Sept 17 but could not say for sure, it would have been at my new address if I did as have not had any mail forwarding from old address.
I dispute the debt, but I do not know how to put it to Lowell to say "prove it is mine and I'd you can't leave me alone". They are just not getting it.0 -
Hi bracken how are things with this currently? I (well my OH) is currently having a similar issue re a debt company (not lowell) claiming there is debt on their account. Havent sent an official proveit letter yet but will do. We have tried to talk to the debt compnay & the company the debt was allegedly accrued but neither seem interested. We are really concerned bc we do not believe the account IS actually OH's but has been created fraudelntly using OH name & address, but neither of the companies seem to want to know.braken2000 wrote: »Hi Sea Shell,

Like yourself, I am really worried & we seem caught in a similar situation.
Would love to hear if you resolved yours & if so how? Or just any advice0 -
I’m quite concerned, I received a letter from Lowell saying I owe money to Vodafone from a number of years ago which was cancelled. (my mobile contract is still with Vodafone) Vodafone have never said I owe them money and surely I wouldn’t have been able to open another account with them, I have asked Lowell to send me proof that I owe money but heard nothing. Then received a letter threatening me with CCJ if I don’t pay. What do I do? Please help?0

I trust you've kept a copy of your previous letter. That will be part of your defence if they start a claim.Firey81 said:I’m quite concerned, I received a letter from Lowell saying I owe money to Vodafone from a number of years ago which was cancelled. The letter you need to respond to is the pre-action protocol letter

Vodafone used to have a rep on thee boards that was quite helpful on these cases (which are many). I'm not sure if Vodafone respond now
