    Hi,

Already some good advice but I have a 28 year old MX5 and for the last 3 years have used https://www.rcib.co.uk/ to insure and build up a separate NCB.

This year for 12 months comprehensive cover including commuting for two of us is around £150 - I dont think £3/week is too bad.

I could definitely get it cheaper if I restricted the mileage but have gone for 5000 as if its a nice summer then I will use it most days for work. Also I select the smallest excess I can so could be even cheaper for you if you opt for a larger excess.

I would give them a go - i'm not affiliated with them in any way , just a customer for 3 years.

    Hope this helps.

I'm just wondering what happens when somebodies' car is off the road for a lengthy period due to the crankshaft falling off or something similarly disastrous.

Also shared or communal anything tends to get used, shall we say, less carefully, than self owned stuff.
Who cleans it? Who chucked sweet wrappers on the floor. . .

Insurance aside, personally I'm not a fan of communal belongings.

Need2Insure are very good. the owner has several Ford RS cars including Princess Dianas decoy Escort RS turbo.

Footman James is who i've also used and understand about classics more than your average old car.

Thanks all! It's what I'd describe as a 'modern classic', a BMW Z3. I'll see if the 'classic' insurers will take it!
The Z3 ceased production in 2001/2 and most classic insurers are OK for cars over 15 years old. Lots of owners on Zroadster.org have classic car insurance for their Z3s. Also its useful if you've got a low mileage well looked after Z3 as you can have an agreed value policy.

When I was looking to insure my 19 year old Boxster with LV who insured my 107, they offered a classic policy for it with 5000 mile limit for £145. Doesn't need to be garaged like some policies.

If you haven't bought it yet it might be worth looking at other cars. I haven't ever driven one myself but a friend who owned one said it was one of the worst cars he ever had. I reckon a decent MX5 would be a better buy.

I echo them being horrible to drive, steering is like a bus.
