Both housing benefit and JSA forms asks about income and states to inform them immediately if anything changes. You failed to declare your student income so you didn't answer the questions correctly.
ETA:- finally found the online viewable form. It also asks if you are studying, level, funding received and hours. You must have lied?
Can't believe CAB told you that you were eligible if you shared that info.
Thanks for the reply,
I have applied over the phone, I didn't fill form for applying,
housing benefit has also been accepted by the first call it wasn't different application.
I need to declare anything changes there wasn't any change from when I started to get benefit.0 -

You still have to sign a claimant agreement when claiming JSA. I'm very surprised that you weren't asked if you were a student because that's one of the questions on the form. Thanks for the reply,

I accept that there are faults from both sides. Contact Centre staff at DWP are expected to be able to answer around 80% of questions on first contact and that is unreasonable, given that many of those calls will be be to do with errors / problems with the claim and should be investigated properly. Likewise not all CAB staff will have in depth knowledge of a specific benefit. Staff on both sides should be willing to say they don't know the answer rather than giving out wrong information.
Sure.
I do sometimes think it is the communication that falls down - between client and CAB and claimant and DWP etc etc and the client hears something that we didn't say (not particularly anyone's fault). I've certainly had cases where the client has said something to someone which I know I didn't say.
Having said all that I've been volunteering this morning and got superb help from a DWP call handler to sort out an issue for a very distressed client.0 -
I was under the impression that you could claim JSA while studying part time? As long as you were still seeking work and able to give up the course/combine the course with work if you found a job.
Certainly when I was on JSA 3 years ago the staff in the JCP were completely aware I was also at college to gain more skills for future jobs.
Maybe the rules are different north of the border.0 -

You would have answered questions put to you by the person on the phone which come directly from the form which specifically asks about courses and education and finances.0 -
