Help regarding how late licensing fine affects credit report

Hi all,
I have received a late licensing fine from the DVLA for not paying road tax.

I have had contact from Adventis debt collections regarding payment. I am appealing the fine, and feel I have a relatively strong case (the scrappage company I used to scrap the car failed to inform the DVLA as is their responsibility, and there is written correspondence of me informing the DVLA of this, which overlaps with the date the the fee was issued.)

If the appeals process goes to pot (as I am aware that the DVLA have this reputation), I will begrudgingly pay the fine to make it go away. My question is, if whether the fine and the fact that it was handled by a debt collection agency will appear on my credit report.

Many thanks in advance.

  • No, it won't appear. The only debt collection items on a credit report would be for debts relating to, or sold by, a company that was already reporting the account. Whilst undoubtedly the DVLA will have a back door into credit rating agency files, they, or their debt collectors cannot report to it. However, if your case was to go the County Court and you got a judgement against you, and then you didn't pay for a month, that would be picked up by the agencies and reported for six years.
